How to Migrate from the Pax Dei Launcher to Steam

As announced here, the Pax Dei Launcher will be decommissioned. You will no longer be able to access the game via the dedicated Pax Dei launcher.
To ensure you can continue your journey in Pax Dei, please follow the steps below:

Step-by-step migration
 

1. Create a Steam account (if you don’t already have one).

   How do I create a Steam account?

2. Retrieve your Steam code.
   • Check your email or notification in the account management page
   • Copy your Steam key if you haven’t already.
3. Link your Steam account.  ⚠️This step is required for your Steam key to work.
   • Go to account.playpaxdei.com/linked-accounts.
   • Link your Steam account, or confirm it’s already linked.
4. Redeem your code in Steam.
   • In the Steam client, click Games > Activate a Product on Steam…
   • Enter your Pax Dei Steam code.
5. Download & play from Steam.
   • Install Pax Dei through your Steam Library.

   • Launch the game: you will have access to your avatars and plots as before.

      

Founder recipes (Gallian Gargoyle)

No! All entitlements will remain on your Pax Dei account, including unique recipes like Gallian Gargoyle. 

In addition, if you link your (new or existing) Steam account to the main Pax Dei account before redeeming the code, you will automatically get access to your plots and avatars.

Do I have to create new steam accounts?

You can link only one Steam account to your Pax Dei account. You will receive 1 Steam code for each Pax Dei account with active Launcher license.

If you wish to continue using these accounts you will have to link Steam accounts in your account management page and then, redeem the Steam code. In this setup, you will get access to your avatars and plots, even launching the game directly from Steam.

This means that you will need to create more Steam accounts to redeem all your codes. 

NOTE: Once you link your account to your Pax Dei account, you can use only one Steam account and run the game from a single Steam instance by following [this instructions]. 

When you start the game, you will be prompted to enter your login details, allowing you to choose which account you want to access.

How can I run multiple game instances on Steam?

We do not officially support multiboxing or running multiple instances of the game simultaneously. Steam allows you to do this, at least for now, by following these steps:

1. Go to your Steam Library.
2. Right-click on Pax Dei → Properties.
3. Go to Installed Files → Browse.
4. In the folder that opens, right-click PaxDei.exe and choose Create Shortcut. NOTE: depending on your Windows version, you may need to click "Show more options" to see the Create Shortcut entry.
5. Right-click this shortcut, go to Properties, and in the Target field, add -nosteam at the end.

Your Target should look something like this (depending on your install location): 

"your PaxDei location\PaxDei.exe" -nosteam  

It is this shortcut you just created and edited that will let you launch multiple instances of Pax Dei. You can open as many clients as your computer can handle! You’ll just need a login and password, which you can easily set up via your Account Management page:

1. Visit https://account.playpaxdei.com/
2. Create an account (if you haven’t already) with the email address you want.
3. Make sure to link the Steam account where you redeemed your code.
4. Add a password to your account (required if you created it via “Continue with Google,” for example).

Steam shows I don't own any of the Founder Packs. Why?

This is expected behavior. The Steam code you received only unlocks the base game, without the Founder Pack DLC. Steam does not read information from your Pax Dei account, but if you have linked your Steam account to your previous Pax Dei account, you will automatically have access to everything you had before, including the Founder Pack DLC.
